Emergency Department Construction Information for Employees

Riverside Healthcare is launching the first complete remodel of its emergency department in nearly three decades. The 16-month construction project will better serve the community’s current and future needs, improve patient safety, and enhance the patient experience.

Some of the features of the new emergency department include:

  • Increased use of negative pressure
  • Improved treatment spaces, including an additional trauma room and more rapid treatment spaces
  • Enhanced patient privacy
  • Expanded behavioral health rooms
  • Added technology, including a new command central for patient monitoring

On Wednesday, October 20, the emergency department moved into two adjoining spaces – Emergency Department North (ED North) and Emergency Department South (ED South) – to accommodate the next phase of construction.

ED South is where patients arriving by ambulance will enter the emergency department. Ambulances will continue to use the Ambulance Drive-Thru to drop off patients at ED South.

ED North was most recently the Interventional Recovery Unit space in the North end of Riverside Medical Center. Patients being dropped off by car should enter here to check in. Visitors are guided to the ED North for check-in and then directed to the patient they are visiting.

Attention has been given to exterior and interior signage to help our guests. Please be attentive to help navigate people to these locations throughout this process.

Administrative offices for emergency department staff members are now located in office #F104.

Now that there are two emergency department locations, it is critical to give extra attention to codes to know whether they apply to ED North or ED South.

If you have any questions, please contact Cris Langellier, Director of Emergency Services, at [email protected].

In Memory: Matthew D. Moyes

Matthew D. Moyes – February 3, 1967 – September 20, 2021

Riverside Emergency Department nurse practitioner Matthew D. Moyes passed away Monday, September 20, 2021, at Riverside Medical Center. Matt was a paramedic for many years before joining Riverside as a nurse in the emergency department. He then became a nurse practitioner and joined EPMG/Envision. Matt was also a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Iraqi Freedom.

Matt was well known for sharing his knowledge, stepping in and supporting his team, and speaking up and sharing his ideas.

“My last conversation with Matt, I brought him a patient compliment I had received on a patient satisfaction survey. In response, he thanked me and then paid it forward by telling me how great Kaitlyn Beswick (one of our ED Nurses) was doing. He listed in great detail an example of a time she took great care of a patient and told me what a wonderful team we have here,” said Cris Langellier, Director of Emergency Services at Riverside.

10 Ways to Create an Emotionally Healthy Home
The emotional health of the home you are raised in impacts you for the rest of your life

  1. Provide Time, Attention, and Affection: Make family meals a priority. Develop rituals such as reading a story together before bedtime. Show affection, express how much you care, and practice being present with everyone every single day by giving genuine attention.
  2. Design a Space That Evokes Positive Emotions: Whether it’s a sanctuary-like space or family photos that make everyone smile.
  3. Establish Clear Rules: Rules are meant to keep everyone safe — both physically and emotionally. Set rules that will help everyone understand what’s acceptable and what isn’t.
  4. Provide Consequences for Rule Violations: Make consequences known ahead of time.
  5. Use ‘Feeling’ Words Liberally: This will help everyone feel more comfortable talking about their emotions and build your children’s emotional vocabulary.
  6. Validate Everyone’s Emotions: Make it clear that whatever someone feels is OK. It’s what they choose to do with those emotions that matters.
  7. Hold Tough Conversations: Ignoring the “elephant in the room” won’t make problems go away. Tackle tough topics with love and honesty and show your family its okay.
  8. Practice Healthy Conflict Resolution: Using the silent treatment, yelling, making threats, or calling one another names will crush the emotional health of any home. Compromise, set healthy boundaries, and problem-solve together to resolve conflict
  9. Reach for Healthy Coping Skills: Practice healthy coping strategies like reading, gardening, and exercising. Show how to manage your emotional distress in a healthy way.
  10. Talk about Mental Health: Talk openly about the fact that anyone can develop a mental health issue. Make it clear that seeing a professional for your mind is no different than seeing a dentist for your teeth or a doctor for your body.
