Dr. Haryani Presented with Lifetime Achievement Award

During the Full Medical Staff meeting on Tuesday, September 3rd, Dr. Vijay Haryani was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Medical Staff Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a member of the Riverside Medical Staff who has made an outstanding contribution to the quality of healthcare delivered in this community, the growth and development of the clinical services provided at Riverside, demonstrated leadership amongst the physician’s peers, and/or provided outstanding mentoring of colleagues or clinical trainees.

It is a celebration of the accomplishments and career of Riverside’s distinguished physicians.

Dr. Haryani has been instrumental in the development of cardiology services at Riverside and in the community as a whole since 1990 when he first joined the medical staff.   He is a visionary who executes on his vision to improve the outcomes of our patients and our community as a whole.

He supported the creation of cardiac cath labs at Riverside bringing to Kankakee a much-needed cardiology service that improved the quality of patient care and outcomes for those patients previously being transferred up north for urgent cardiac care.

He was instrumental in bringing cardiovascular surgery to Riverside, pushing back against skepticism that such high level of care could not be offered in a community setting.  This service has saved many lives and has allowed patients to stay in their hometown community being cared for by physicians they know and trust.

He has served on numerous medical staff committees in the past 35 years and held leadership positions in Cardiology both for Riverside’s medical staff and Riverside Medical Group.  He is a well sought-after speaker, lecturing to other physicians on developments in cardiac care.

Dr. Haryani is described as a high energy performer; he is always at the hospital providing services to our patients.  He is an excellent and highly valued teacher for our residents and cardiology fellows.  Everyone working with him boasts about how much they have learned from him.  And he freely shares his knowledge and experiences with all healthcare professionals.

Dr. Haryani has impacted directly and indirectly the lives of so many in the community.  There is no slowing him down.  We are taking a few minutes tonight to celebrate his achievements up to this point and look forward to his future contributions to the healthcare of our community.
