From 2-10 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at The Grove in Bourbonnais, 700 Main St. NW, join the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, presented by the Riverside Cancer Institute.
Fighting cancer takes many things like research, free rides to chemo and lodging near hospitals, and our 24/7 helpline. But we can’t do any of that without you – join Relay For Life!
Survivors, caregivers, and supporters are invited to join this event. From 1-2 p.m. will be registration for survivors, including time to pick up medals or sashes. Caregivers can pick up sashes during this time.
At 2 p.m. will be the opening ceremony. At 2:20 p.m. will be the Survivors Lap followed by the Caregivers Lap. From 3:30-4 p.m. there will be ice cream for survivors sponsored by Oberweis Dairy.
To receive a free survivor’s t-shirt, please register at relayforlife.org/kankakeeil. Or, call Nancy Moore at (815) 342-5863 or email [email protected].
The Riverside Cancer Institute locations – Bourbonnais, Coal City, Frankfort, and Watseka – showed their spirit by wearing Dr. Seuss-themed “I do not like cancer here or there; I do not like cancer anywhere” shirts.
“They are always ready with a smile when providing care to their patients,” said Barb Hartman, manager of the Riverside Cancer Institute.

Congratulations to the February 2025 DAISY Award winner, Dominique Yonke, Oncology RN/Cancer Treatment Center.
Dominique’s nomination read: “We had a patient call after hours with an issue with her chemotherapy pump that she wears home. The provider on call reached out to see what he should tell the patient to do. I reached out to several of the nurses that had worked that day to see if anyone was willing to call the patient and troubleshoot the pump issue. Dominique volunteered and called the patient.
She walked thru different troubleshooting ideas with the patient, but the pump was still beeping and not infusing. She offered to the patient to come back to the office and she would meet her at the office to look at it in person. Dominique came to the office at 7pm at night (long after her shift had ended) and met the patient and her husband and was able to fix the problem so the patient’s chemo would continue to infuse and would not delay finishing her treatment. Dominique is truly an amazing Oncology Nurse and a true asset to the Riverside Cancer Institute and to Riverside. She goes above and beyond for her patients and co-workers every day. This is just one example of the wonderful nurse that she is.”
