Smoking cessation program, Courage to Quit, celebrates first graduate

The following story was shared by the Cardiopulmonary Rehab department.

“The Courage to Quit smoking cessation program, held by our Cardiopulmonary Rehab team, has it’s first official graduate!! Mr. Bruce Stone heard about our program on the WVLI. He wrote down all of the information, called the Cardiopulmonary Rehab department and signed up because he was ready to take that next step of quitting smoking. The orientation session was held on April 7, 2025, and he was very motivated to move forward with being smoke-free. He attended all of the sessions to complete the program. During his time in the program, he was able to set a quit date, learned about the benefits of quitting smoking, and how to handle any situation where he may feel the urge to smoke again. When his quit date of April 23, 2025, came, he got rid of his cigarettes and moved forward with his plan to being and staying smoke-free. He was able to work with Sarah Johnston, Respiratory Therapist, Courage to Quit Program leader to get his plan in place and keep it in place. He continued to be smoke-free throughout the rest of the program and successfully completed the program on May 12, 2025. During his follow-call, Mr. Stone stated, “I am still smoke-free and feeling great. I never want to go back to smoking and feel the way I did.” He also hopes to encourage others to take that next big step. GREAT JOB BRUCE!!”
